Atlas Headrest Compatibility Guide: Find the Right Fit for Your Chair

Atlas Headrest Compatibility Guide: Find the Right Fit for Your Chair

An Atlas Headrest isn’t a universal accessory. Each model is designed around the structure of a specific chair, so the first step is identifying the chair you own.

Use the compatibility chart below to find your chair, check whether an Atlas Headrest fits, and see what you may need to know before choosing a particular fabric, frame, or finish.

Atlas Headrest Compatibility Chart

Fit refers to physical compatibility. A chair can be compatible while still requiring additional information to select the closest fabric, frame, or finish match.

Herman Miller Aeron Compatibility

Atlas Headrest for Herman Miller Aeron sizes A, B and C

Atlas Headrests fit all Aeron sizes: A, B, and C, and Atlas confirms compatibility across the Classic, Remastered, and Gaming versions.

Need a breakdown on whether an Atlas Headrest fit your chair? Read Will An Atlas Headrest Fit My Chair?

Classic vs. Remastered Aeron

The Classic and Remastered Aeron Headrests are physically interchangeable. A headrest intended for one generation can fit the other.

The reason to pay attention to the generation is appearance. Atlas notes that the mesh and plastic components can differ between Classic and Remastered chairs, so mixing generations may result in differences in color or texture.

If you want the headrest to blend more closely with your chair, select the corresponding generation.

This should help: Does the Aeron Remastered headrest fit on a Classic chair and vice-versa?

Aeron Gaming and Black/Onyx Remastered

Atlas offers separate product pages for Aeron Remastered and Aeron Gaming headrests to make it easier to match the chair categories customers already see from Herman Miller. However, the Black Onyx Remastered and Black Onyx Gaming Aeron headrests are the same.

Mesh vs. Cushion

Mesh and Cushion are headrest options, not separate Aeron chair generations.

Atlas currently offers both styles for compatible Aeron chairs. The Cushion Headrest option uses a padded surface, while the Mesh option provides a different feel and more airflow around the head and neck.

If you’re unsure which Aeron configuration or fabric you have, Atlas’s Headrest Finder can use the chair’s fabric SKU or manual chair details to help identify the appropriate option.

Herman Miller Embody Compatibility

Atlas Headrests fit both standard and gaming versions of the Herman Miller Embody.

The same Atlas Embody Headrest design is compatible with both chairs. When selecting your headrest, the important details are your chair's fabric, frame color, and back plastic, which determine the closest visual match.

Atlas offers matching guides for Sync, Medley, Rhythm, and Gaming Embody configurations. If you know your chair's fabric SKU, you can use it to identify the corresponding fabric and color, then match your frame color and back style. If you don't know your fabric SKU, Atlas's Headrest Finder can help identify your chair's configuration.

The Gaming Embody also uses Sync fabric, but Atlas keeps its Gaming options separate to make it easier to match the specific colorways and configurations used on Gaming Embody chairs.

One important point: Atlas does not currently offer exact matches for every Embody fabric. Mercer, Scatter, and Balance are examples where there is not a one-to-one match, but Atlas still offers recommended combinations that can complement these chairs well. If you’re unsure which option will look best, contact Atlas for a recommendation.

Herman Miller Mirra 2 Compatibility

Atlas makes a headrest specifically for the Herman Miller Mirra 2. It fits both the Butterfly Back and TriFlex versions.

The important distinction is between the Mirra 2 and the original Mirra.

Mirra 2 vs. Mirra 1

The Atlas Mirra 2 Headrest is not compatible with the original Mirra 1. If your chair is simply identified as a “Mirra,” confirm which generation you have before ordering.

Standard and Extended Reach

The current Mirra 2 product offers Standard and Extended Reach support-arm options. Atlas designed the two lengths for different positioning needs: Extended Reach provides more height range, while Standard Reach provides more clearance in lower positions.

The current product page lists both configurations as part of the available Mirra 2 setup, so check the live product details when ordering for the latest availability and included configuration.

Your Mirra 2’s frame and fabric can also be used to choose a headrest that matches the chair more closely.

Need help determining which headrest will best match your Mirra 2? Use our Mirra 2 Headrest guide to identify your chair's fabric and frame codes and find the corresponding headrest option.

Haworth Fern Compatibility

Atlas makes a headrest specifically for the Haworth Fern, and its compatibility documentation states that the Fern model fits current Fern configurations.

The Fern Headrest uses an adapter that converts the Atlas Aeron headrest arm mechanism for use with the Fern. The complete Fern headrest assembly includes the adapter, so you do not need to modify the chair or source an additional mounting component.

For upholstery matching, Atlas offers exact-match options for select Haworth Fern Runner fabrics. If your Fern uses another upholstery, the Original Cushion is a versatile option with a more universal appearance that complements many chair fabrics without trying to provide a one-to-one fabric match.

Frame color should also be considered when selecting a headrest, particularly if your Fern uses a lighter gray configuration rather than black.

Steelcase Leap V2 Compatibility

Atlas Headrest for Steelcase Leap V2 chair

Atlas makes a headrest specifically for the standard Steelcase Leap V2. It is not compatible with the Leap V1, Leap V1 Highback, Leap Plus, or other Steelcase chairs.

Steelcase Leap V2 headrest compatibility

If you own a Leap, confirm the version before ordering. The V2 designation is important here because the headrest’s mounting system is designed specifically around the standard Leap V2.

Finding your Leap V2 fabric code

If you want the headrest to match your Leap’s upholstery, find the chair’s fabric code on the manufacturing label underneath the seat. Atlas explains that the fabric code is typically a four-character code found under the “Finishes” label.

Once you have the code, use Atlas’s Leap V2 compatibility guide to identify the corresponding headrest option.

Matching Your Leap V2 Fabric

Atlas currently offers an exact fabric match for Leap V2 chairs upholstered in SoftNext. If your Leap V2 uses another upholstery, the Original Cushion is generally the best option for a more universal look that complements a wide range of chair fabrics.

If you're unsure whether your chair is a standard Leap V2 or which fabric you have, contact Atlas with a photo of the chair and its manufacturing label before ordering.

Replacement Cushion Compatibility Across Aeron, Fern and Leap V2

Atlas cushion headrests for the Aeron, Haworth Fern, and Steelcase Leap V2 use the same cushion frame. Because of this, replacement cushions can be physically interchangeable across these headrest models.

However, physical compatibility does not always mean the cushion will provide the closest visual match for every chair. The cushion material and plastic backing may be designed around a particular chair or finish.

For example, the Vegan Leather Cushion can be used on compatible Aeron, Fern, and Leap V2 headrests, but it currently comes with a Graphite plastic backing. This provides the closest match with a Graphite Aeron. The same cushion can still be used on a Fern or Leap V2, but the Graphite backing may not perfectly match the black or grey frame colors commonly found on those chairs.

Because there are a few finish-specific differences like this, we recommend contacting Atlas before ordering a replacement cushion for a different chair model. We can confirm physical compatibility and help you choose the option that will coordinate best with your chair.

Not Sure Which Chair or Configuration You Have?

Start by confirming your chair model and version to make sure the Atlas Headrest is physically compatible. Then, use your chair's fabric, frame, and finish information to choose the closest visual match.

For chairs with multiple versions, confirm the detail that affects compatibility:

  • Aeron: Classic, Remastered, or Gaming
  • Mirra: Mirra 2 rather than the original Mirra
  • Leap: V2 rather than V1

Once you've confirmed the chair itself, a fabric SKU, fabric code, frame color, or other finish information can help identify the best matching headrest configuration. The exact information varies by chair.

For Aeron and Embody, Atlas's Headrest Finder can identify the appropriate configuration using the chair's fabric SKU or manual selections. Mirra 2, Leap V2 and Fern also have fabric or finish codes that can be used with their individual matching guides.

If you’re still unsure, send Atlas a clear photo of the chair’s SKU label. If you don’t have the label, Atlas recommends photos of the front and back of the chair, a close-up of the fabric, in as natural lighting as possible so our team can help identify the fabric, color, frame, and backing.

What If My Chair Isn’t Listed?

Atlas Headrests are designed for specific chair models and mounting systems rather than as universal accessories. Atlas currently identifies compatibility for the Herman Miller Aeron, Embody, and Mirra 2, Haworth Fern, and Steelcase Leap V2.

Have an older chair or another chair configuration you're unsure about? Read our Atlas Headrest Compatibility with Older or Other Chairs guide for additional compatibility information.

If your chair isn’t listed, don’t assume that a headrest designed for another model will fit.

Avoid drilling, modifying, or adapting the mounting system yourself. Atlas states that DIY modifications are performed at the customer’s own risk and may void the Atlas product warranty and potentially the chair’s warranty.

If you’re unsure whether your particular chair is supported, contact Atlas before ordering.
