Understanding Normal Headrest Movement
It is important to remember that your headrest is engineered to hold the natural resting weight of your head—typically around 10 to 12 lbs.
However, when greater force is applied (such as leaning back firmly), the headrest is designed to move.
This intentional movement is based on ergonomic principles: Your seat and headrest should conform to your body movements, not remain rigid against them.
Thus, your headrest tension should be set to support normal resting weight while still allowing some flexibility under heavier pressure.

Understanding and Fixing Horizontal Tension Issues
If you notice that your headrest moves backward under normal resting head weight, this is a somewhat common issue and is often easy to correct with a few simple adjustments! Follow the steps below to properly set the horizontal tension of your headrest for optimal comfort and support.
Steps to Adjust Horizontal Tension
- Tighten the Knob by Hand
- Start by tightening the knob located on the side of the arm mechanism.
- Turn the knob by hand until it is snug. In many cases, hand-tightening alone will improve headrest stability.
- Tighten the Internal Hex Bolt within the Knob with the Allen Key
- Locate the Allen key included in your hardware pack.
- Insert the short end of the Allen key into the hex screw inside the knob at the bottom of the arm mechanism and tighten clockwise.
- Use the long end of the Allen key for even better leverage and apply torque to tighten the screw further.
Note: Many users are unaware of this hidden hex bolt, but tightening it can significantly improve headrest holding power!
Applying these two tightening methods together can restore proper tension and stability.
Still Experiencing Issues?
In-house testing has shown that achieving very tight tension is possible.
If you are still experiencing issues after adjusting the knob and internal hex screw:
-
Try applying additional torque with the Allen key to achieve maximum tightness.
-
If the Allen key cannot tighten the bolt further or the headrest still does not hold properly, please send us a video showing the behavior of the headrest and the adjustment points.
